Our History
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was founded on January 13, 1913 on the campus of Howard University by 22 collegiate women. The Lambda Omicron Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated was chartered on the campus of the College of Charleston on May 25, 1974 by Veatrice Barnes, Doris Carson, Marilyn Harper Cummings, Lillian DeGuire, Christine Green, Harmoniest Simmons Peterson, Mary Seabrook, and Corliss Wise, better known as the "Elite 8." Our chapter made history at The College by becoming the first historically African American sorority on it's campus. 44 years later, we continue to implement the values of our charter members and founders in the Charleston community. We are a part of the Sensational South Atlantic Region.
